subject Tour on August 27, 2011 (morning) to visit electricity generation plant

Dear Science Coordinators,

Following the Japan nuclear radiation leakage incidence, there has been wide discussion on the environmental concern of electricity generation.

On behalf of HKU Science Alumni Association, I contacted HK Electric Holdings Limited (now called Power Assets Holdings Limited 電能實業有限公司) to arrange a tour to visit its power plant at Lamma Island, which in a single site has a combination of generators including fuel powered, wind powered, solar powered as well as combined cycle units.

With courtesy from HK Electric, a free trip is arranged for 35 persons to visit the power plant at Lamma Island on August 27 2011 at 9:30 am to 12:45 pm with assembly and dismissal at Ap Lei Chau.

I can now accept application for tickets from Science Coordinators on a first come first served basis.

Each email may request for a maximum of 2 tickets.

Dear Edward,

I would like to confirm that the captioned visit will be conducted on 27 August 2011 with details as follows:

09:50 am - Assemble at Yi Nga Road of Ap Lei Chau

10:00 am - Depart Ap Lei Chau Pier for Lamma by company ferry

10:20 am - Arrive at Lamma Power Station

10:25 am - Tour of Lamma Power Station

- Visitor Centre
(To understand the operation of power station & environmental measures taken to reduce emissions)

- Reservoir Area
(To have a bird's eye view of Lamma Power Station)

- Turbine Hall of gas-fired generating unit

12:00 noon - Depart Lamma for Ap Lei Chau Pier by company ferry

12:20 pm - Arrive at Ap Lei Chau Pier
(End of the visit)

Please note that you shall be responsible for the transport arrangement to/from our Apleichau Pier. The assembly time is 9:50am and th28 to 35 wind energy generators e number of visitors is limited to 35. A copy of map9326-8116 showing the rendezvous is attached for your reference.

If typhoon signal no. 1 or the rainstorm warning (red or black) is hoisted, the visit will be cancelled.
